Keeping Time

Here at P&W we fill out things called "Time Cards" every week. On the time cards, we, as employees who want to get paid, are responsible with putting our names, the job site we were at, the total hours for each job site and the date for each day we worked. Not too complicated, right? Apparently not.

The following are several rules that I think should be followed in order to ensure the accuracy of paycheck hours.

1. Carry your time card around with you to all job sites. Record the time after you leave each job site. This eliminates the hassle of trying to remember where you were all week on Wednesday afternoon. Remember to turn in your time card Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning 1st thing.

2.If you work part time and don't come to the office at the end of each day please be sure to phone or fax in your time Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning before 8:00. This would eliminate the inevitable phone call I have to make to re-do your check. Other employees shouldn't be responsible for writing down your time or making sure it is turned in.

3. Double check your addition to make sure each day includes 8 hours. Unless you were late or had to leave early or you only work part-time, each working day is 8 hours.

If we would all follow the above rules payday would run more smoothly.

Promoted to Vice President of Payroll. Addition just got easier.
